Macedon Ranges - Trade Tasting - Wine Show - Upcoming Wine and Food Festival

Only a one hour drive from Melbourne's CBD, the Macedon Ranges region is home to some of Victoria's most stunning countryside and more than 30 wineries, showcasing an array of cool climate wines.  In close proximity to a number of villages including Lancefield, Kyneton, Woodend, Malmsbury, Trentham and Glenlyon, an easy day trip is possible, or a relaxing weekend most enjoyable!

Macedon Ranges Trade Tasting - August

In August I had the opportunity to attend a Macedon Ranges trade tasting in the CBD and was most impressed with the wine showcased.  From a tasting of approximately 70 wines, I have selected a few that I really enjoyed:

  • Athletes of Wine Pinot Noir 2013
  • Banyandah Pinot Noir 2013
  • Curly Flat Estate Chardonnay 2012
  • Cobaw Ridge Pinot Noir 2013
  • Ellender Estate Pinot Noir 2012
  • Granite Hills Riesling 2014
  • Hanging Rock NV Cuvee XIV
  • Hesket Estate Gewurztraminer 2013
  • Lyons Will Chardonnay 2014
  • Midhill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010
  • Mount Charlie Tempranillo 2012
  • Passing Clouds Pinot Noir 2014
  • Pegric Pinot Noir 2010
  • Zig Zag Blanc de Noir 2012

Macedon Wine Show - October

Earlier this month I had my first opportunity to take part as an Associate Judge at the Macedon Wine Show.  The tasting was held at the contemporary Macedon Wine Room and on a 35 degree day the view across the ranges was simply stunning.  With very effective air conditioning, sampling our way through 100 wines was engaging and manageable in a day.

This show follows with an awards night on the following Friday at The Macedon Wine Room, and although I could not attend this year I will certainly put it in the diary for next year!  Top wines from the show were:
